Wilmino Domond (1925 - 2016)

Wilmino Domond, born in Jacmel in 1925, was a coffee farmer before becoming inspired to paint by his cousin, Castera Bazile. While never abandoning agriculture, he joined the Centre d'Art in 1948 and launched a highly successful career as a painter. Domond has influenced several of his younger cousins, including Celestin Faustin, Ezene, Parizot, Ury and Hughes Domond. A painting of his was on the cover of the paperback edition of Selden Rodman's guidebook, "Haiti, The Black Republic." The same painting was featured in the landmark exhibit. Exhibits 1978, "Haitian Art," Brooklyn Museum.
