Calixte Henri (1933 - 2010)
Calixte Henry was born in Port-au-Prince on January 3, 1933. Henry's father was a mechanical engineer in the navy, his mother a dressmaker. He completed primary and secondary school at Lycée Pétion. He worked several years as a telegraph operator.
Henry joined the Art Center in 1955 and remained there until 1959. He started painting professionally in 1958. He worked with Galerie Monnin. He won special mention from the Guggenheim Foundation (n.d.) in New York.
