He began to paint in 1945 and in 1950-51 was one of the five painters selected to paint the landmark murals in the Trinity Episcopalian church. He executed three murals in the now ruined Episcopal Cathedral of Sainte Trinite’ in Port-au-Prince, The Ascension of Christ, The Baptism of Christ, and Christ Expelling the Money Changers from the Temple. In 1955 he won the grand prize in the Caribbean International Art Competition sponsored by Alcoa and in 1957 received $1000, an impressive sum, as the grand prize winner of an art contest sponsored by Holiday Magazine.
