Bourmond Byron was born in Jacmel on June 23, 1923. He was the son of a general in the Haitian army. He studied at Freres de instruction Chretienne. In his twenties, he earned a living as a carpenter and shipbuilder. A visit to the Centre d' Art in 1948 convinced him to become a painter. In Jacmel, he studied under Fernand Jean Louis. In 1955, he joined the Centre d' Art where he worked under other greats in to mature his technique.
